I’ve watched the tv show ‘Skins’ a lot since it first came out. I really liked the first series, but it seems to me this second series is falling away a bit. The first series was great because it told a simple story that developed naturally over the episodes. It set itself apart from cheesy shows such as Hollyoaks that demand plot twists at the end of every episode.
However sadly it seems that the second series is doing exactly that; having unnecessary dramatic shocks after each episode. Before, Skins represented teenagers as a smart lot who act like real people, not just depressive stereotypes. Certain parts of these character’s lives were perhaps a bit far fetched, but then again so are situations in real life. But the second series just has the characters getting knocked up and in trouble. This isn’t what the show should be like! It should be different from yet another teen flick! To be fair it still has some good moments, but I just think the second series is lacking some of the simplicity and truthfullness that was apparent in the first. Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go and watch it…
